MORE than a dozen volunteers kicked off a new project by tidying up the riverbank of Colchester’s Colne.

The members of Colchester in Bloom joined forces with Greg Hall, river care project officer for Keep Britain Tidy, whose work has been funded by Anglian Water.

On Saturday, they worked up and down both banks of the River Colne from Middle Mill to North Station Road, picking up rubbish.

Over a couple of hours the volunteers filled around 12 bags with beer bottles and cans, which were then collected by Colchester Council.

Great credit to the people who did this work.

Big Thank You to all of you.

Let's put the Pride back in Colchester.

Has the time come to ban the sale of chewing gum, our pavements are covered in the horrible stuff and it costs a fortune to remove it?
