DETECTIVES have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead in St Mary's car park, in Colchester. 

Emergency services were called to the town centre car park, in Balkerne Hill, shortly before 9am this morning. 

The death was initially described as a "fatality" but the force has now confirmed a murder probe has been launched.

Officers are continuing to carry out investigations to establish the circumstances and the cause of his death.

Neither Essex Police nor the East of England Ambulance Service Trust have revealed what injuries the man suffered. 

A force spokesman said: "We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances and the cause of his death.

"We initially closed the car park while our early investigations were underway.

"The car park remains closed to the public. We are aiming to be able to allow access to vehicles within the car park later today and are grateful to those persons affected for their cooperation."
