A GRATEFUL charity which supports veterans in need has benefitted from a cash boost thanks to the kind actions of supermarket staff.

The Invicta Foundation, based in Colchester, was recently presented with a cheque for £632 from Sainsbury's Local, in Layer Road.

The money was raised through donation pot collections, alongside £190 donated by the store itself.

Around Christmas 2016, staff from the foundation also visited the store with a stand and mascot to collect food and treats to be sent out to soldiers in Iraq.

The foundation is a military charity working to support veterans, service personnel and families who have been adversely effected by active service.

Staff at the store have agreed to wear red t-shirts with the logo R.E.D on the back - standing for Remember Everyone Deployed - on the last Friday of every month to raise awareness of the cause.

Cheryl Hall, co-founder, said the cash and donations would go a long way to helping veterans and their families.

She said: "It is so lovely to have the support of the community, it really does help us to continue our work and to help as many people as we can.

"We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support by Sainsbury's Local."
