THE “Mother Theresa of Jaywick” has found another way to people’s hearts...through their bottomless stomachs.

Lorraine 'Boo' Vaughan, 55, is the proud owner of Boo’s Community Kitchen, her very own café within a caravan in Morris Avenue, Jaywick.

It has been an aspiration of hers for several years following a failed attempt at opening a café with a friend.

For the past 12 years Lorraine was unemployed after family issues, including her father’s death and marriage breakdown, led to a nervous breakdown.

But her fighting spirit meant one day she would own the business she always wanted.

She said: “After my divorce I had some money I wanted to use for the café but we couldn’t get a building.

“I had trouble getting a premises and just said to myself: ‘I’m going to get a caravan’.

“Then someone offered me one and I took it from there - it was like it was meant to be.”

Boo’s kitchen seats 13 people and is open between 7am and 4.30pm each day serving fry-ups.

It is something of a family affair with Lorraine’s son and daughter backing their mum’s new venture alongside her many fans and neighbours, who she calls family.

She said: “I have so many followers from different countries who come to Jaywick just to meet me and they’ve have fallen in love with me.

“I’m the main one in the community - if people are upset or need to talk, they come to see me.

“As I’ve been told, I’m the Mother Theresa of Jaywick.”

It is a reputation which has served Lorraine well and she plans to spread her charm stateside having come across her namesake in the US.

She said: “There’s someone called Boo in Boston who does the same sort of thing I do and it’s on my bucket list to meet him.

“I don’t know why because I’d never had a passport or flown in my life as I don’t like heights, but a passport was on the bucket list and I have that, and so was my caravan.

“I’ve learnt to never say you can’t do anything because you can always do something, especially in the community.

“If not, come down and I’ll show you how to do it.”
