A CHARITY which supports older people in Clacton and the surrounding area has won its own support thanks to supermarket giant Tesco.

The Tesco Clacton store at the Brook Retail Park has donated £500 to Tendring Eldercare as well organising a tea dance held at its Social and Wellbeing Centre on Jaywick Lane.

Store manager Darren Walsh said: “The charity primarily provides day care facilities for elderly, disabled and isolated people throughout the area and does an amazing job.

“The more we learned about what it does, the more we wanted to get involved and we are delighted to be able to help in this way.”

Tendring Eldercare helps older people with mental health issues and physical impairments who are in need of independent living support.

It has been hands-on in the community for more than 30 years and was named Marks & Spencer Charity of the Year in 2015.

Colleagues from the Tesco store have already cooked a hot lunch for people at the Social and Wellbeing Centre.

They also plan to return in the run up to Christmas to cook a festive lunch.
