VISITORS to The Secret Vintage Fair in Colchester will take part in the latest instalment of a charity campaign.

The Tom Bowdidge Foundation’s 1,000 Faces of Colchester campaign will take place at the fair at Firstsite gallery in Lewis Gardens.

Janine Tompkins, organiser of the fair and owner of Lesley's Girls Vintage fashion shop, said: “We are delighted to offer ongoing support the Tom Bowdidge Foundation, which was set up by a brave and inspiring local teenager.

“The Christmas Fair is one of our busiest and we hope a lot of people will take part in the campaign and help us raise funds for the foundation.”

Photographer Gavin King has teamed up with Kerseys Solicitors to photograph 1,000 people.

Once the target has been reached, Kerseys will donate £1,000 to the foundation, set up by Tom’s family to carry on his good work.

The current total is 642 people.

Tom, a Colchester Royal Grammar School sixth-former from West Bergholt, raised £170,000 for charity before he died of stomach cancer, aged 19, in October 2013.

Tom’s parents, Nikki and Richard, and sister Emma, launched the foundation on what would have been his 20th birthday, on February 28, 2014.

The foundation, based in Colchester, raises funds to support research projects and to provide support to young people with cancer.

Dad Richard said: “We are delighted the Secret Vintage Fair is hosting this event and backing our campaign. By raising awareness and funds for our cause, it will further help our work with young people with cancer.”

Photographer Gavin, 34, who came up with the idea, will get people at the fair a white board to write down a message.

The fair is expected to host up to 50 traders and will include live music, a vintage fashion show and hair, make-up and wardrobe workshops.

The No 1 Balkan Express entertainers will perform to guests, as well as various bands and dance workshops.

Anthony Wooding, Kerseys managing partner said: “We are grateful to the organisers of the fair for supporting this campaign. It promises to be a fun, family event.”

The fair will also raise money for charities supporting refugees, especially those from Syria.

It will take place on Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm and then 7.30pm until late.

Entry is £3 on the door and tickets for the evening cost £10, available from the Firstsite box office.
