A COLCHESTER inventor’s peeinspired product has been named as one of the best eco-innovations on the market, by Grand Designs star, Kevin McCloud.

Andy Ruddock, of West Mersea, invented the Ezy Peezy, a device which fits inside the toilet pan and prevents the need to flush when someone goes for a pee.

Instead, the device releases chemicals, which clean the pan, reduce odours and can save more than 100 litres of water a day in a home.

Each year, TV presenter Kevin picks nine of the best eco-innovations on the market and their creators are crowned Kevin’s Green Heroes.

The products will be featured at the heart of the Grand Designs Live show, in London.

The winners and their products will be at the show at London’s Excel arena, between May 2 and 10.

Mr Ruddock, 34, said: “It is probably the biggest accolade I have received so far.

“It will be an amazing to be part of this event. Tens of thousands of people go every day.”

The product is available to buy online, but recently retailer Home Bargains agreed to stock it in its 400 stores nationally.

Mr Ruddock added: “All the hard work is starting to pay off.”
