A MUM claims her daughter’s new blanket unravelled and wrapped so dangerously around her legs she could not move.

Rachael Simpson, of Thorrington, woke up to discover her daughter, Tulip, three, had become tangled in the blanket’s thick thread, leaving red marks across her legs.

Miss Simpson had bought the £4 blanket from the children’s department at the Range, in Colchester, three weeks before.

Wanting to warn other parents, she took it back and asked the manager to report it to head office so an investigation could be carried out.

However, she claimed the manager said her daughter had likely unravelled it herself and they would not be taking it off the shelves.

Miss Simpson said: “I couldn’t believe it. I tried to snap it with my hands and couldn’t. Neither could the store staff when I took it in to them.

“Imagine if it had tangled around a child’s neck and they had fallen out of bed. It’s a hazard and people need to know, especially as it is marketed at children.”

Contacted by the Gazette, the Range said it was investigating, but could not say if the blanket was still on its shelves.

A spokesman said: “Our investigation remains ongoing in relation to the concerns brought to our attention. Customer feedback is very important to us.”
