SCHOOLS have seen a small rise in their pass marks after GCSEs were remarked in the wake of the English exam controversy.

Thomas Lord Audley, in Monkwick Avenue, Colchester, saw its five A* to C including English and maths GCSE benchmark increase by one per cent to 38 per cent, after maths papers were returned with higher grades.

The school hopes to see a bigger jump when 15 English papers are returned.

Results for the English exam slumped nationally, after changes to the exam midway through the year.
