A KIND-HEARTED council worker has been nominated for a national award after he used his contacts to help a charity appeal.
Terry Fredericks-Greenslade works as an anti-social behaviour officer for Colchester Borough Homes.
But he stepped in to help with the Heroes Garden Project appeal, to create a garden for injured war heroes.
The £100,000 Gazette-backed appeal set out to transform a neglected piece of land at the Help for Heroes recovery centre in Colchester, into a therapeutic garden for wounded service personnel and their families.
Terry contacted engineering suppliers who agreed to contribute materials and machinery which was worth the equivalent of £50,000.
Terry, 46, of Rowhedge, said he acted in memory of his niece, Ellen Greenslade, who tragically died ten years ago, aged four.
The youngster was in Newcastle when she fell into a steep river gorge.
