Cruel thugs were spotted kicking a goose along the road - and filming their actions.

Colchester police were called after a shocked resident spotted five youths walking along Lexden Road.

They were kicking the distressed bird down the road and filming themselves on their mobile phones.

The incident has horrified police and RSPCA officers, who are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Kelly Taylor, of Colchester police, said: "Cruelty to animals is a despicable and cowardly crime in any instance, but to kick it round makes it appear as if this was sport to the youngsters involved."

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "We are shocked and appalled to hear about this incident. We would appeal for anyone with information to contact us or the police."

Anyone with any information about the incident at about 11pm on Monday night. is asked to call Colchester police on 0300 333 4444 or the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.

The question is why do they all seem to live in Colchester? Do these kids not have decent parents to teach them right from wrong?

The police need to start adopting a complete zero tolerance approach to antisocial behaviour. There should be no warnings. Commit a crime, however small and you should be before the magistrate the very next day. Colchester needs to operate night courts as well to deal with these idiots swiftly.

They should all be publicly executed. I couldn't care less if they're someones little angel.

Killing or abusing animals often leads to bigger things.

Hopefully buoyed up by their brave, hardman actions on the goose they'll try it on a Rottweiler next - that's one You-Tube video I'd love to watch!

This doesn't just happen in Colchester. The Crossways park at Jaywick sees the same type of mindless neanderthal attacks carried out on animals, and in St Osyth they have had to put extra metal fencing up at part of the lake's edge, otherwise the nesting Swans get stones etc thrown at them! Isn't it just charming. I don't know who brings these morons into the world but they really should be made to stop it if they can't be bothered to bring their kids up properly with respect for other people and animals. Perhaps an IQ test before puberty and compulsory sterilisation for those that don't pass??? Bet that will rattle a few cages!!!
