North Essex: High-speed chase drama
A MAN was arrested on suspicion of a string of offences after a high-speed chase through rural Tendring.
The pursuit began after a car allegedly failed to stop for officers near Weeley.
Two high-performance cars from Stanway road policing unit began a chase thatlasted 58 minutes.
The Suffolk police helicopter, a dog unit and Tendring-based officers also assisted.
The silver Renault Laguna car was followed through villages at speeds of up to 80mph.
A police spokesman said: "At the Bowling Green roundabout, the Laguna headed towards Clacton.
"The pursuit was brought to a safe conclusion."
The driver was stopped on the A133, between the Bovills roundabout and Tesco, when police forced the car off the road.
No-one was injured.
:: A 35-year-old Clacton man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of a stun gun, cannabis and cannabis resin, and driving without insurance. He has been bailed until June 24.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the Laguna car before or during the pursuit, which started at 7.12pm on Friday. Witnesses should call police on 0300 333 4444.

Did the police have an opportunity to oppose bail for this criminal? Did they? Who granted bail to him? ...heads should roll. It is outrageous.

The definition of rascal is ' a mischieveous child'. Maybe the Vicar would like to use a different word to describe the scummy ****.

Think of two things 1. in custody we the Taxpayers would have to feed and accommodate this sum and 2. What about his human rights ?

And what was the major crime here, suspicion of dangerous driving, no insurance, in possession of cannabis and having no insurance it makes you wonder why they were chasing him in the first place,(no don't tell me they needed to put their toys into use).

The words I would use might offend the most foul-mouthed reader.
I would like to see the police armed with wire-guided missiles.
They could simultaneously end a chase and ensure the drivers would not repeat the offences

You are clearly a genious and should be a police officer. You would clear up so much crime knowing exactly who to stop!!!

Oh Vicar, we suposed to be talking about a high speed pursuit here, not 2 posts a day...
OK, them nice little round roadside cams that seem to be everywhere are called A N P R cams.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras.
Like it or not, these cams track your movements as you drive.
On most of the High Speed Pursuit vehicles, and others, the on board cams watch for vehicles that are "not quite right"
it flags up vehicles that are not insured, taxed or have "other" intrests in them.
In all fairnes, the police dont have to bother with the system, UNTILL it tells them something is "wrong"
it identifies the vehicle by its regestration plate details, gives audible & visual warning on problem, so as to enable a reaction by the officers.
If you look at the Gazette picture, the 3 police vehicles have most definately "stopped" the silver Laguna, with the rear police vehicle almost jacking the laguna up in the air....
This was not just a normal police stop was it, but a "stop at all costs" controlled 3 vehicle forced stop....
If they wanted it stopped that bad, and wrecking 3 police vehicles in the process, then let the naughty boy who was driving off on bail, it just makes you wonder "what" is going on, or down, as we speak..
I think its one of them "watch this space" deals going on......
Hic---Hic---- more tea vicar....

This article states he was bailed for those offences - it does not say he was necessarily released from custody at that time.
He might have been detained for other more serious offences, possibly dating back some time, on behalf of another force - just a hunch.....
Some may think that possession of cannabis, possession of a stun gun, dangerous driving and driving without insurance are petty, minor offences. But it is this type of criminal, who has such a flagrant disregard for the law, that our police are trying to keep away from decent members of society.
Any decision to bail somebody in police custody has been taken away from custody sergeants, and is now the job of a CPS lawyer.

That means no compo for anyone he knocks down or for the family of the person he kills. Laws are there for a reason.
