Colchester: Woman killed at rail crossing
A woman died and a man was injured when they were struck by a train at a level crossing.
The incident happened near to Hythe Station, in Hythe Station Road, Colchester.
Insp John Wolstenholme, of the British Transport Police, said they were not treating the incident as suspicious.
Passengers on the train, which was travelling to Clacton, completed their journey by bus.
Mick Richmond, from Thorpe-le-Soken, said: The train came to a sudden halt and I realised something was wrong.
There werent any announcements but after about 30 minutes a police officer and a train company representative came through the train telling everyone what happened.
Divisional officer Andy Butcher, from Colchester Fire Station, said his officers had been called in to assist.
