A ROUNDABOUT opposite one of the county's mainline stations should be blown up and given a makeover, according to a district councillor.
Carlo Guglielmi, a district councillor for Manningtree, wants the roundabout opposite its station - which he described as "an horrific piece of architecture" - to be completely re-vamped with attractive flower beds.
He also wants an official Welcome to Lawford sign there to put the village on the map.
Mr Guglielmi says the current roundabout, which has a level of grass over it, is putting tourists off staying in the Manningtree and Lawford areas.
He said: "It is the most prominent thing you come across when you drive past there and you get a lot of traffic around there.
"It would be nice to welcome people to Lawford.
"I would quite happily blow it up and start again, it is the most horrific piece of architecture that Lawford possesses," he added.
Mr Guglielmi, who is also a Lawford parish councillor, added: "At the moment it is absymal and ugly.
"If it was changed, it would help the area's tourism because we have a high number of people who travel to other parts of the county and use footpaths, the estuary and go on walks. There are lots of features people travel to see."
Now he is interested to know if Manningtree's Town Council would consider being involved in the project.
Just last week, members of the Manningtree Rail Users' Association said they wanted an underpass to be built by Manningtree Station.
