Early-shift workers walking down North Hill were greeted by the odd sight of two people fast asleep inside the entrance of a top restaurant.

The men were spotted by passers-by, fast asleep on a sofa in the Strada Italian restaurant at around 5am.

A spokesman for Tragus, which owns the Strada chain, said the men worked for contractor Fluid Cleaning and were restripping the floors while the restaurant was closed during the night.

They had to wait until 8am to hand over keys to the arriving cleaners and, finishing the work early, they decided to take a snooze.

"Obviously they decided it looked quite comfortable and decided to have a nap," he said.
