Children have been left devastated by the theft of quad bikes.

The machines were locked up in a field when they were taken as part of a haul worth thousands of pounds.

Alison Jackson gave the smallest quad bike to her youngest son Harvey for his fourth birthday.

The other two belonged to her nieces - Danni, 11, and eight-year-old Erin Sims - who got them at Christmas.

Miss Jackson, of Granville Way, Brightlingsea, said: "It's been heartbreaking for the kids.

"We go and camp at the field and spend loads of time there during the summer.

"The children's summer has been taken away from them."

The equipment was locked in a metal container at the side of the field. It was raided between Saturday night and Monday morning.

The haul included an LT50 Suzuki quad, an LT80 Suzuki quad, a Quadzilla 125 and a £1,000 MTD petrol ride-on lawnmower.

  • Police are investigating and anyone with information should call 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

As these Quads are dangerous the thieves have done the spoilt brats a favour.

I expect nearby residents will be relieved! No more noise!

That is not the point atall is it... yous may as well be as sick as the skanky people that took the quads!!

Ian from Colchester - jealousy is not a nice trait! I expect your children hang around the streets causing damage to other peoples property (having a role model like yourself).

'Me' from Colchester, the quads are used only on private land well away from any residents.

The whole point of this is that, once again, other people think that rather than working hard to provide an enjoyable hobby for their children, they can just steal it

I don't understand the comments on this website some times.

Some kids have their toys stolen and people slag them off for having them....

Surely your vitriol should be directed at the thieves?!

    Absolutely bizarre.

I'm not sure about the safety of a 4 year old having a Quad bike- though as long as he is supervised I'm sure it is okay.

This is really another story about thieves. People that want something, but not to have to work for it. More pointedly, people that want something that you have worked for.

It seems that we have become a society of acceptance- where we accept that there are thieves around, that they are a by-product of life today- whether they want your property or money through your taxes.

We should really be looking at more zero tolerance of law breaking & giving tougher sentences.

I'm fed up of having to worry about safty of my property and my family. It seems inevitable, unless the Government take a tougher stance, that vigilateism is round the corner.

Absolutely MrC, that is the point but i do think the majority of people think the same way as us rather than those small minded bigots!

When there are people starving in the world I really have no sympathy for your kids whatsoever
buying kids toys I agree with but these things are just rubbing the people who have little noses in it, "Oh look at my kids with their swanky quad bikes".

Oh and by the way I hope they were'nt insured I would hate to think my polices will be going up because of such decadence.

OK, 2 ways to look at this.
1st sorry for the kids loss.
2nd are there any near neighbours to annoy.
i live quite close to a large holliday camp, people come to enjoy themselves, and they do, BUT, some bring all sorts of mini moto`s, quads, track bikes, go karts and think it quite acceptable to let the kids run riot inside and outside the camp.
    A its illegal outside.
B its dangerous inside, and stamped down on with regualarity by the camps management, with machines being confiscated and crushed legaly.
belive me i`m no killjoy, but common sence (which some holliday makers dont have) must tell you you that if you cannot get away with it at home, why on holliday.....
and as for the eediot that drives his around on our beach, new laws about nothing now being "private" if its accessed by motorised vehicles, and has the public using it, have been put in place to protect life......

I think Ian has made some good points here although I don't agree with stealing other peoples property and it seems as if Steve believes for a child to behave itself it needs expensive brides that seems rather sad.

I agree with MrC - surely any anger should be directed at the theives and not the victims of this crime!

It seems to me that Ian from Colchester is rather bitter and twisted! I suggest councilling for your jealousy issues?

Quad biking doesnt have to be an expensive hobby! Children are using these (as previously stated by Steve from Colchester) on a piece of privately owned land well away from residential areas (and obviously using the necessary safety clothing and equipment)they are not harming anyone - they will be having fun whilst getting fresh air and exercise something that a lot of children lack nowadays.

Quad Bikes are annoying !!!! FACT !

They ride on footpaths, over private drives, people’s lawns and pretty much wherever they like.

Do something better with your children this summer !!!! Try READING BOOKS instead !!!!!

If a four year old has a quad bike, what does he get for his next birthday - a gold plated saloon car to drive on private land?
Good taste and discretion dictate that without being patronising to the very young, we can at least teach them some values and also show that there are many enjoyable pastimes that don't need money thrown at them!
By the age of 14 these poor children will possibly be looking at some truly life threatening sport or activity for kicks, having "done the lot" with less dangerous but still hazardous "toys" almost from infancy.

Not for the neighbours it hasn't.

Ian the tone of your comments remind me of another bitter and twisted person simmo or one of his alter egos. The point is theft should we all laugh when your loved ones (you probably are lonely and sad) loses something or someone,it is even harder for young children to understand why it has happened to them especially if they have had a balanced upbringing and not spoilt but give treats from hardworking parents.
Posted by: Citizen 139 on 8:37pm Wed 26 Mar 08
Andy, giving a child a quad bike for his 4th birthday is not a balanced upbringing, if that's not spoiling a child I don't know what is.
Posted by: andy, colchester on 8:47pm Wed 26 Mar 08
Are playstations etc part of a balanced upbringing? What is the differance between a quad bike, horse or pedal cycle more kids are hurt on them. If kids did do sports or motor sports where will our future champions come from?

Its good to see that Victor Mildrew is still alive and well and posting on this site !
What a bunch of miserable gits you lot are !
The point here is theft this family rightly or wrongly are just entertaining their children on private land small quads don't make that much noise perhaps Victor and co would be happier if the kids were out roaming the streets in the summer?

How many of those starving people do you help then,Ian?
I am sure if you have children you would like to be able to buy them nice things. The point is that these bikes were locked up and from the sound of it used responsibly, therefore they did not deserve to have them stolen. I think there is a bit of jealousy going on here.

Do you know what really makes me laugh here is that people like Sherlock are probably correct however it is the snots that have stolen these that will ride over your land and make a nuisance of themselves either that or the people that buy them. Not the responsible people that attempt to do it within the law. But then you wouldn’t have the intelligence to understand that perspective would you...

I cannot believe the comments of some of the people on this forum. Should these thieves be patted on the back and congratulated for their illegal act? My children have been thoroughly spoilt by me and my husband and have been given everything we can afford (we both work by the way). They have turned out to be absolutely lovely people who respect others and their possessions. It's making sure your children know the value of their treats that is important, knowing that hard work has been undertaken to get those treats appreciation that they are lucky enough to have them. I live in the same town as the children involved and know their parents. These families are all hard working pe

Some of you putting comments here should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.

I'm not the biggest fan of quadbikes being driven along footpaths either, but then that's not the point.

These kids have had their posessions taken and you lot stay by and say "Good riddance to quad bike, these kids were spoiled anyway".

How about a little sympathy and common sense?

What about the thieving scum who nicked them? Do you think they're going to behave responsibly with them?
