ONE of horseracing’s best loved jockeys will be riding into Clacton next month.

Acclaimed sportsman Frankie Dettori will be entertaining fans at the town’s Princes Theatre.

And the show is neatly timed because Frankie is set to reach a milestone achieved by only five other Flat jockeys in British history.

The Italian is now closing in on his 3,000th British winner and will join an elite club consisting of some of the greatest ever Flat jockeys Sir Gordon Richards, Pat Eddery, Lester Piggott, Willie Carson and Doug Smith - who have also reached the illustrious figure.

Frankie has won races in 24 different countries across the world, including far-flung places such as Turkey, Sweden, Slovakia and Trinidad and Tobago. He has also won some of the biggest races around the world including, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe four times (1995, 2001, 2002, 2015), the Dubai World Cup three times (2000, 20003, 2006) and 11 wins at the Breeders Cup meeting.

The cheeky chappy is also well-known for his TV appearances, ranging from being a horseracing pundit, to a captain on A Question of Sport and even a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother.

An Evening With Frankie Dettori, with special guest Peter Burrell, takes place at the Princes Theatre, in Station Road, on March 3, from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £23, and are available from princestheatre.co.uk or the box office on 01255 686633.
