AN award-winning three-piece from Canada are making a rare visit to our area later this month.

The three-time JUNO Award (Canadian equivalent to Grammy Awards) nominees, Sultans of String are to play The Quay Theatre in Sudbury.

The genre-hopping band use a multitude of instruments for their repertoire which includes Celtic, Flamenco, Cuban and Arabic music as well as funk music and violin dances.

Sultans of String are led by Chris McKhool, a well-known and award-winning Canadian musician and producer, who received a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his work.

Together with Kevin Laliberté on guitar and Drew Birston on bass, the trio have been touring many big name venues such as UK’s legendary Celtic Connections, and New York City’s Birdland and the Lincoln Center. They recently sold out Koerner Hall (Toronto’s Albert Hall), and performed with Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Stratford, Ontario and Niagara Symphony Orchestras, as well with Kingsfield POPS in Maine and Maryland’s Annapolis Symphony.
