Crowds descended on Southend Round Table’s annual Big Beach Bang.
Thousands of pounds worth of fireworks lit up the night sky while gleeful faces from toddlers to grandparents stared on in delight.
Alongside a funfair and DJ, Shoebury’s East Beach was rammed full as people eagerly awaited the start of the display. The event didn’t disappoint, as huge fireworks were met with gasps from youngsters.
The Big Beach Bang is organised on a voluntary basis by the members of Southend Round Table 106, and is one of their major fundraising projects.
Every year the event raises thousands for charities in the community. in the past donations have gone to Havens Hospices, Essex Air Ambulance, Southend Blind Welfare Organisation, Harp, and many more.
Last year’s event raised in excess of £20,000, with organisers hoping they can top that once they have completed their final count. Southend Round Table spends ten months planning the event to ensure it is a success. The group has plenty of experience, with the event dating back to the group’s earliest displays at Southend United’s Roots Hall football ground in the 1970s.
Work will soon be underway for next year’s firework spectacular.
