A THOUGHT provoking film about the Syrian conflict is being shown at Essex University next week.

Little Gandhi follows the life of iconic Syrian activist Ghiyath Matar, who became internationally known for his initiative of facing down violent government security forces with flowers and a bottle of water.

Matar was a key organiser of peaceful protests in his home town in Daraya, and while the documentary follows the journey of a young man dedicated to peaceful change, and the international attention his story received, it also reflects the plight of all Syrians in their long fight for freedom.

In a bit of a coup for the university, following the film's screening the audience will be able to hear from the film's director, Sam Kadi as part of a post show discussion.

The screening takes place on Tuesday, February 7, at the Lakeside Theatre. Theatre doors open at 6pm and the film will start at 6.30pm.

Admission is £4, and £2 for concessions, available on the night or in advance from the Lakeside box office on 01206 873261 or on-line at www.lakesidetheatre.org.uk
