FOLLOWING the resounding success of the Colchester Operatic Society’s recent production of Sister Act, it’s junior troupe is returning to a musical classic.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel has in the past been voted the best musical of the 20th century and it will be CO2’s next show, taking place at the Mercury Theatre in September.

But before rehearsals can start the group need to find its cast and so a special workshop and a series of pre-auditions is being organised.

The workshop takes place at Prettygate Junior School on February 28 from 9.45am to 4pm.

It’s a chance to meet the production team and learn about the show as well as practice some of the musical numbers.

To attend, performers must be between the ages of 11 and 23, bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink plus wear suitable clothes and shoes for movement and dance.

Following the workshop, three pre-auditions will run on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm, the first of which is just for girls on March 1. The boys night is on March 8, and then the final session is on March 15 before the auditions themselves on March 20 from 9.45am.

All of which again takes place at Prettygate Junior School.

This year CO2 is looking for around 50 young people to take part in the show with rehearsals mainly taking place on a Tuesday night.

The cost of taking part in the workshop, pre-auditions and the audition itself is £10.
