USUALLY when the Pulse Festival comes round at the New Wolsey Theatre, I have to read up on the programme and estimate what could be the highlights. Of course, you never know what gems can be found at the festival, but this year I can confidently recommend two shows I saw at the Edinburgh Festival last year which are not to be missed.

The festival kicks off on May 28 with the jaw-dropping Bromance, presented by acrobatic circus Barely Methodical Troupe, and the show thrills through its risk taking acrobatics.

The dazzling displays of physical feats are better than anything you will see on Britain’s Got Talent, and it’s for all the family – go see!

My favourite play of last year, the amazing Every Brilliant Thing, performs on June 2, presented by Pianes Plough.

It’s a play about depression, but it is the most uplifting experience I have ever had at the theatre. In response to his mum’s suicide attempt when he was six, a boy starts making a list of everything in the world that is brilliant (number 1 is ice cream).

The list continues as he goes though his life and the audience add every brilliant thing.

It leaves you celebrating how brilliant life is.

Please, do not miss this one!

There are themed days – May 29 is the Suitcase Prize day, May 30 is the Scratch Day (featuring works in progress), and the following day focuses on children and young people.

Tim Crouch brings an alternative take on Twelfth Night, I Malvolio, on June 6 that looks intriguing. As always, check out the brochure or online, and take the Pulse. Visit www.wolseytheatre.co.uk/pulsefestival/ for details
