Sheridan Smith has said it is a “dream come true” to be starring in her very own ITV special, which will celebrate her wide-ranging career.

The one-off programme, titled Sheridan, will include performances from the Bafta and Olivier Award-winning actress and singer, and will also see her discuss her life and career.

Smith, 36, said: “I am so excited to be performing my songs and sharing my journey with my fans, friends and family.

The actress is best known for her roles in TV dramas including Cilla and Mrs Biggs, as well as her appearances in musicals Funny Girl and Legally Blonde.

Smith rose to fame in sitcoms The Royle Family and Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, and she has also appeared in films Hysteria, Tower Block and The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

Earlier this year she starred in the BBC’s The Moorside, about the disappearance of Shannon Matthews.

In August, Smith confirmed she had signed a record deal with East West Records and will release her debut album later this year.

Lee Connolly, ITV Entertainment’s creative director, said: “With such a stellar career as an actor, it’s easy to forget that Sheridan is also a wonderful singer.

“With brilliant performances in ITV’s Cilla and as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, it reminded us why Sheridan is such a special and unique performer and we are delighted to be making this one-off special with her.”

Sheridan will air on ITV later this autumn.
