Kirstie Alley's sitcom Kirstie has been cancelled after just one season.

The Cheers actress starred in the comedy as Broadway star Madison "Maddie" Banks, whose life is turned upside down when she's reunited with the son she'd given up at birth.

The series reunited Kirstie with her former Cheers co-star Rhea Perlman. It also starred Eric Petersen and Seinfeld's Michael Richards.

Deadline reported that Kirstie, which launched in December 2013 with average ratings and faced a behind-the-scenes shake-up in February, was not being renewed.

Kirstie, 63, tweeted: "It takes me exactly 24 hours to recover from s***ty news...not bad for tragedy..:) #RISE (you have 24 hours)..."

The show, which had aired for just 12 episodes, is the first from the network TV Land not to make it to a second season.
