Alicia Silverstone has said being in labour with her son was "almost sexy".

The Clueless actress welcomed son Bear Blue in 2011 and revealed on a US TV show that despite refusing pain relief she found the first part of labour amazing, before she had to undergo an emergency Caesarean section.

The New York Daily News quotes her as saying on Live! With Kelly And Michael: "The first 14 hours was almost sexy.

"The [hormone] oxytocin was doing all this magic and it felt amazing. And then it got less than amazing. It got really intense as labour is."

Alicia, 37, also revealed that she opted to eat her placenta after she had given birth.

She explained: "Someone gifted me my placenta in the form of a pill. They encapsulate it. I thought that's harmless. I'll try it. And I have to tell you that I really loved it. And I've got to the point that my husband (Christopher Jarecki) said 'Did you have your happy pills today?' And I was really sad when they were gone. It really helped me."

Alicia, who has unveiled a new book called The Kind Mama, about fertility, pregnancy and having a baby, has also said she and her husband would like another child in the future.

"Definitely eventually," she said on another interview on Good Morning America.

"But I'm really loving and enjoying Bear right now. I want to finish a few things and then definitely want another baby but not yet."
