CHIN up Marcus Collins, One Direction are living proof you don’t need to win the X Factor to win the hearts of millions of fans across the country.
The boyband, who were formed out of solo entrants in the boys’ category before being moulded into shape by Simon Cowell and co, are due to play at the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff, on Monday.
The announcement had excited fans camping overnight to get their hands on tickets from the venue’s box office when it was announced earlier this year.
Although they lost out to Essex boy Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson in the finals of last year’s mega-music contest, the group have become one of the hottest pop acts of the year.
Lately they have been teaming up with pals and fellow-X Factor finalists JLS, who also bucked their finishing place to have a hugely successful career.
Leaving a steady stream of passionately beating teenage hearts in their wake, the boys are planning a UK tour next year.
The Cliffs date is one of just two pre-tour appearances.
They’ll be showing off songs from their debut album, which was released in November, as well as a few favourite covers.
They’ve also got a couple of surprises up their sleeves. One Direction are at the Cliffs Pavilion, Station Road, Westcliff on Monday. This is a sold-out event, call 01702 351135 for returns.
