Game Grand Theft Auto IV

Platform Playstation 3
Age 18
RRP £39.99

So, this game then. Ultra violent? Sick and sadistic. Ruthless, brutal and pointless. Well, yes and no. Not many realise you can adjust the content to suit a multitude of ages. But, let's not kid ourselves here – this is for grown ups. Parents, are you listening? This is an 18 rated game for those over 18.

But while you can indiscriminately slaughter pedestrians, beat up anyone you fancy, the actions do have consequences. The police will shoot or arrest you, and you start again.

How many times can that be fun before repetitive boredom sets in. Far more fun to play the game as intended – be Niko Bellic, an Eastern European immigrant fresh off the boat in New York/Chicago, sorry Liberty City, and become a crime lord.

There are light moments. Ricky Gervais makes an appearance doing a radio interview which can be listened to in one of the many driveable vehicles. Hilarious stuff.

You can date, change your clothes and massacre innocents. It's a strange combination and with sales passing some £70 million, it's a combo that works.

I enjoy the driving the best – the American cars still have amazingly spongy suspensions meaning handbrake turns are vital. Takes some getting used to though.

Fighting? Pah. Shooting, not too bothered. Looking after your cousin who keeps getting into scrapes, cool.

Monster graphics too – not perfect – not entirely lifelike, but a major step forward. Interesting also to people watch – it's amazing the way living cities are being created now.

There is plenty of adult content – strippers, prostitutes, violence, but remember boys and girls, this is 18 rated. Shame so many seem to forget that.

The multiplayer options are many and varied and will provide plenty of online fun and games, and could become huge. Not sure it will pass Call of Duty or Counterstrike, but you never know.
