Spiderwick Chronicles
Xbox 360
Age PG
RRP £44.99
There is a spooky movie with kids dealing with all sorts of spooky things,
and of course there will need to be a game coming out with kids dealing with
all sorts of spooky things and it's called Spiderwick Chronicles and comes from
Nickelodeon Movie Studios which isn't really spooky. But this is a game primarily
for children, but take note of that PG rating - this is not a completely
soft game.
You can unlock and explore a hidden world of the seen and unseen while you do
battle with strange and enchanted creatures in this spellbound world eerie adventures
as you fight to stop a rising evil, so, pretty standard stuff then, but the
joy is in the detail and this is pretty good. There may be prettier looking
games out there and some with different control systems, but Spiderwick is pretty
darn good.
There are three children, all from the Grace family, who have to use their unique
abilities to unravel the mystical mysteries of the Chronicles. And of course
don't forget Thimbletack the Brownie, as if you would.
There are plenty of quest to be run, and solutions to be found, and of course
that combat, although clever, is child friendly, generally against nasty goblins.
Some of the mini-games are also two player, making it a little less solitary.
