Need for Speed Pro Street
Platform - All
Age 3+
RRP up to £49.99
I love racing games, and now finally Need for Speed comes of age. It has taken a while, but this one is just stunning.
You can play it on the Wii, with the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and of course PC, and they are all great.
Damage - that's the big news with this one. You can see in amazing detail the way you are ruining your car with that sloppy driving style. No longer can you just blaze into a turn and wall-ride or even wall-bounce your way round.
At last you need a modicum of skill and a realisation of some physics. James May from Top Gear fame wrote in this month's magazine column that the steering wheel seems the only way of steering a car to him because that was how he was brought up. Yet kids today are generally all familiar with joystick steering and they may like their road cars to be the same. I only hope they learn how to drive properly before being let out after seeing some of them in multiplayer games.
Anyway, back to this street racing title. There are four styles you need to get good at here - they are drag, drift, grip and a speed challenge. A couple have been seen before of course, and all have been in a variety of games. But Pro Street delivers some fun a on a whole new level.
There is some neat muscle metal to get to grips with here, along with some fine motors from around the world.
Pro Street is a great game and takes things further on that the last outing, Carbon.
Try it - game shops have the demo running almost all the time - the know this is fun.
