Sim City Societies

PC
Age 7+
RRP £34.99

The original Sim City started me off in the business of building metropolises the way I wanted them to be.

That was so many years ago, and the series has steadily developed since then. There was always plenty of people around to let you know exactly what they felt about your way of running things, and the micro-management aspect endeared these mini-folks to many gamers and made life utterly miserable for others. They were so demanding, and now they are in an even better position to make or ruin your city.

These societies can let you know just where you are going wrong, and while you may like to place a landfill site in the middle of the park or next to a school, they won't like it one bit.

And that is part of the joy of this new outing for the PC. You can make their cyber lives as gloomy as you choose. Industrial wastelands are just fine, if that's what you want - not that you are going to make any friends down in the streets but at least they should all have jobs.

Now the developers have included things like creativity, prosperity, authority and much more for you to deal with.

There are some 500 different structures to build into your own city, and these range from the skyscraper to a chicken coop. Of course, why did they ever leave out the chicken coop.

There are also skate parks, clubs, cathedrals, wind farms, plus all those ways we love to play, either with plenty of objectives, unlimited money (the best) and another with no rules at all.

Now, who's for some dancing chickens?
