Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 Dead Space 2

Stuck in outer space places again, fighting monsters. Lots and lots of monsters. And you can punch and kick them too. The foes may not quite run up to the numerical level of Serious Sam, but these do tend to jump out at you.

A sound heart is one proviso I would recommend before playing this game. The scares come fairly frequently, but not enough to get you used to them. Clearly a lot of thought has gone in to that aspect.

But back to you the player. Seems you have had a tough time in an asylum of some description and you have managed to flee – amid a monster attack.

Slowly but surely, you are able to build up physical and mental strength, and acquire more and more sophisticated weapons and defence mechanisms as they become available. Though ‘shops’ which is a tad odd. And by shops, I mean weird spacey consoles where you order your bits as if you were in Argos, and then pick them up. Nice.

There are monsters in this game. I may have mentioned them, and they are the main reason this is an 18 and over game. They are, erm, fairly aggressive.

They vary nicely and you had better master the slightly unusual control system fast, or you will find yourself respawning at your last save point fairly often.

So, now the ace fighter, it’s down to you to save everyone else. Not that you will do a good job of that early on. Downright poor really, but then that’s designed to get your blood moving.

This is atmospheric, a little too dark, and is really designed for consoles. The monsters are good too and thanks to the many difficulty levels, you should find one to suite your playing ability.
