Ah, Sonic. Imagine the mindstorm of the person or committee who finally sat up and said: “Right, let’s make a game with a creature called Sonic. Who is erm, blue. And a hedgehog. With a passion for rings – gold rings – lots and lots of them.”
And all around saw that it was a good brave idea and one of the world’s best known characters was born. Now back again in Sonic Colours, he is bouncing around ever complex and ever growing worlds.
The Wii is a brilliant platform for the former Sega Megadrive chap. This is fast, twisty, and yes, colourful. Very, very colourful. You know the habit newsreaders have got in to these days, warning of flash photography in reports?
Well, you are going to need sunglasses in some sessions – it really does exploit the power of today’s consoles.
Quick storyline. An amusement park is orbiting the home planet of Sonic the Hedgehog, and rumours are spreading that an alien race of Wisps, who have a unique colourful energy, are being held captive there by the evil Dr Eggman. Soon after arriving at the amusement park Sonic discovers he is able to use these mysterious alien forces to help the Wisps escape! So there you are – Sonic has a job to do and it’s vital you help him complete all the missions. I love Sonic games because they are so basic in concept, and sensational in execution. Miss this are your own risk.
