Some people think the History channel on the telly is just 24/7 Hitler and his European tour.
But no. And to prove it, they are behind the release of a fun strategy game called Great Battles Medieval.
And that titles suggests there could be more Great Battles titles on their way too – a bit like going along the Total War line perhaps.
Anyway, this one is set against the background of the historic Hundred Years' War, spanning various conflicts between England and France in the 14th and 15th centuries. See, you learn some history along the way, which is excellent, but I am fairly sure it won’t take 100 years to finish the game. I am no history buff, but surely if the History channel is behind this, it has to at least be pretty accurate.
You get to play with huge armies as you might expect, and you have to duff up other huge armies in huge fields. There is some online stuff too.
Lots of units of course, about 40 in all, including all those on horses and some knights. Arrows fly in both directions and catapults do their bit as well – all looks fairly good.
Campaigns, skirmish, long, short – all up to you. The controls are not too bad either – upgrades too and generals, so some role play too. Seems this has just about everything.
