Some clever systems have been included in Conviction – like the cut out outline of Sam showing where the others in the room think he is, while you sneak off somewhere else. Great for a surprise assault.
And that sneaking off is done well too – instead of watching meters which give an indication of how exposed or noisy you are, the game screen fades to a sort of black and white when you are hidden and melts into full colour when you are out in the open and vulnerable.
The learning curve is gentle enough and leads you into climbing, jumping, ducking, and sneaking like a really sneaky thing.
The third person view may not suit everyone, but hey, it’s called variety. Silenced weapons, noisy weapons, improvised weapons – they are all here.
Plus there is a co-op mode on some extra levels to extend the life of the game too.
There is even some humour with a public announcement warning the terrorists they face discipline if they drive ‘company’ vehicles for their use.
Instructions on what to do next can appear as sort of visions on walls – a clever way to let you as the player know what on earth you are doing there in the first place.
Great game done great. Buy it.
