It may well have been marching rather than singing in the rain, but the raindrops definitely kept falling on heads.
Seventeen groups took part in a soggy battle of the bands in Castle Park, Colchester.
The annual marching band contest, which included musicians from all over the UK, is part of the British Youth Band Association league.
About 500 people attended the event on Sunday. Sixth Hove Scouts, from Sussex, won the first division, while the Trinity School Show Band from Nottingham came first in the second division.
The top eight bands now go forward to the national final.
