Video robbers steal kids' film

11:02am Tuesday 6th March 2001

Two teenagers who robbed a New Addington video shop of £220 made off with a children's video after mistaking it for the store's security tape.

The two youths approached a shop assistant at Central Parade's Apollo Entertainment Centre at 8.50pm last Thursday with a case for the film Gang Law.

They then snatched the video from the assistant and told him to open the till and demanded all DVDs in the shop.

One robber grabbed £200 in notes and six DVDs, while the second youth leaned over the counter and snatched the remaining £20 in pound coins.

And after being told to get the tape, he removed a copy of the children's film Kazaam, which had been playing in the store's video recorder.

They threatened the shop assistant, grabbing his jacket, shoving him backwards and demanding access to the store's safe.

But they fled down Central Parade when the assistant told them he did not know where the key was kept.

The robbers were black, aged around 18-years-old, 5ft 10ins and of medium build. One wore a green and grey hooded top, black trousers and white trainers. The other wore a dark baseball cap, a dark hooded top, dark trou-sers and white trainers.

Witnesses should contact South Norwood Police on 020 8649 1217.
