COLCHESTER’S Firstsite Art Gallery will be blowing its own trumpet this Christmas.
Part of a new music project, Firstsite – along with Colchester New Music – have collaborated to create a series of new musical pieces to celebrate Firstsite’s new building.
Composers from all over the world were invited to submit scores, to celebrate the echoing spaces of Firstsite, from which Colchester New Music selected eight brass fanfares to be performed by the Bespoke Brass Ensemble, every hour, on the hour, from 10am on Saturday.
Electro-acoustic composers were also asked to create pieces which could be played every hour, on the hour, throughout the Christmas period.
Julia Usher and Stuart Russell, of Colchester New Music, said: “We called out for musicians in mid November.
“A tremendous response was whittled down by a selection panel to eight brass and eight electro-acoustic compositions.”
Each last just two minutes and all the new compositions will sound throughout Firstsite’s building from Thursday until December 31, between 11am and 7pm, every day, on each hour.
