DJs hold special night in Colchester to celebrate incredible year

WHAT a year it’s been for DJs Paul Hutchinson and Darryl Wright.

Better known to clubbers as Slavz IIHouse, the duo have crammed into a year what most DJs would be delighted with in a career.

And it’s all thanks to the Gazette.

Following our report on Paul winning a national DJ competition, Darryl got in touch with his old friend and, realising they still had a passion for playing house music, together they began a whirlwind list of high-profile gigs.

Starting off in Silk Road in St Botolph’s Street, Colchester, they quickly established themselves as favourites on the local club scene. Two online radio slots followed and Ibiza beckoned.

Paul says: “Ibiza was just amazing. What an experience. We took 15 people with us, friends and partners, so it was almost like a holiday. We even took our bongo player with us – Mr Shed from Silk Road.”

Playing to more than 600 people in Ibiza superclub, Es Paradis, was most definitely a highlight, according to Paul.

Not wishing to rest on their laurels, they then set about conquering the London club scene with nights at Egg and Pacha.

As if getting a dream gig at a top Ibiza nightclub this summer wasn’t enough, Paul and Darryl have topped that by getting signed to a top US record label.

The three-year deal with Chicago-based DJ International Records, home to DJ luminaries such as Frankie Knuckles and Richie Fingers, will lead to a number of releases as well as a US tour next year.

Before that the boys will be marking their incredible year with a special birthday gig at the new Ramp Rage extreme skate park, at East Gates, Colchester, on December 17.
