CLACTON’S summer special is being revived this year.
The new-look summer show will be on two nights a week over a six-week run and it will feature comedy favourite, Jimmy Cricket.
The traditional summer season, which ran for more than 80 years, was axed last year after falling numbers, but West Cliff Theatre trustees have been working behind the scenes to get a summer special back for the resort.
Summertime Special 2010 will run from July 28, offering old-style glitz and glamour while keeping up to date with the latest tastes.
It will feature a host of singers, dancers, musicians and a speciality act, produced with spectacular costumes and clever routines.
Trust chairman Mike Freeman said: “The summer show was sorely missed by locals and visitors alike in 2009, which is why we have decided to bring it back for 2010.”
The West Cliff Trust has invited leading light entertainment producers, That’s Entertainment Productions, to relaunch the summer show.
Jimmy Cricket has been bowling over audiences in Clacton for many years. He last headlined in a Clacton summer season four years ago and since then has appeared in one-nighters at the theatre.
His show is being produced by Chris Gidney, who spent several years in the West End before working on TV classics Blue Peter and That’s Life.
The box office will open at the end of January. For details, call 01255 433344.
