IT’S the grand final of the Essex Undiscovered competition this weekend.
Run by Essex Music Agency, the event is the first county-wide live music contest aimed at up-and-coming artists and bands, aged between 14 and 21, who live in Essex.
Following a number of heats, held all over the county, it’s down to the final four: Colchester metal band Before Silence Falls, who mix elements of melodic hardcore and southern rock.
Singer/songwriter Jo Wood, from Brentwood, who sitting alone at the piano has managed to do well competing against the rock and metal bands who took part.
Southend indie rock outfit, the Ends, who have already won a local battle of the bands contest and released their own EP.
And finally, Braintree rock band In Equinox, who reached the regional final of the national Live and Unsigned UK competition.
Judging the final will be Mike Broomfield from BBC Radio Essex, Philippe Palmer, from Ghost Management, and producer Simon Gogerly, who won a Grammy award for his work with super group U2.
The final takes place at Colchester Arts Centre on Saturday.
Special guests will be Braintree’s Missing Andy, a band who are going places.
They filled in for REM at a gig during the South by Southwest music conference last year.
They will be releasing their eagerly-anticipated single, Made in England, in February.
l Doors open at 7pm and tickets, priced £6, are available from the box office on 01206 500900, or on-line at www.
