IT IS 80 years old, and to mark the milestone the Ipswich Regent is promising a variety of acts and performances for its autumn season.
The theatre has three special events to mark the occasion.
Lesley Garret and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be appearing in November for a special gala performance, there’s a behind-the-scenes day on October 24, and finally a Cliff Richard tribute performance on November 5.
This will reflect his last visit in the Sixties, when tickets were only 15 shillings. The price of the concert will be the modern day equivalent of just 75p, although there will be a booking fee of £2.
Other musical performances include Jools Holland, Status Quo, Alesha Dixon and Paul Potts.
Celebrations will run throughout the summer with the likes of Ricky Gervais, Al Murray and Simon Amstell, while the theatre programme for children will be showcasing Milkshake Live! My First Concert and Hi-5.
The theatre’s 80th year celebration is also combining with the Corn Exchange for a diverse range of events, such as the Ipswich Beer Festival and the 50th Birthday Extravaganza of East Anglian singing ensemble Trianon on September 12.
The East Anglian professional premier of High School Musical 2 is also coming to Ipswich in September along with the Take That musical Never Forget.
Michael Flatley will be bringing Lord of the Dance to the Regent in November, and the season will culminate with this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.
