David Lloyd Leisure will create more than 70 new local jobs when it opens its latest club at the Northern Gateway development in Colchester.

Due to open in October it is the group’s 95th club and will offer the whole family unrivalled facilities, services and programmes.

The club’s neighbours will include the community football stadium, a new housing village, cinema with IMAX provision, a dozen restaurants, a hotel and extreme sports facilities.

Construction company Pellikaan has started work on the new 4,845 sq club, which will provide extensive tennis and sports facilities, a fitness area featuring the latest in gym innovation, three indoor exercise studios, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, indoor spa and spa garden and a dedicated zone for children’s activities.

The club will provide three indoor and five outdoor tennis courts, one being under a seasonal bubble for year round outdoor play, offering members’ unrivalled tennis facilities.

David Lloyd Colchester’s new general manager will be Jon Kohn, who previously headed up the team at David Lloyd Chigwell.

Jon said: “We are thrilled to be part of the Northern Gateway development, a promisingly attractive leisure and social destination for the growing community. It will be fantastic to welcome local residents to be part of our superb club full of unrivalled facilities, services, programmes and expertise for members to work, rest and play.

“We are also very proud to be supporting the area’s economy by creating more than 70 new jobs – we are currently recruiting for sales consultants and product managers and I very much look forward to continuing to develop our community relationships.”
