THE new face of hair salon Caramel Browne has been found - and it's 19-year-old Hannah Bourne.
Hannah, of Oak Road, Tiptree, fought off tough competition to be the winner and has her mother to thank for entering her in the contest which was launched in the Gazette at the end of January.
Hannah had no idea that her mother had entered her into the competition and was thrilled to discover that she made the final six.
The two runners-up in the competition, Danielle Dickson, 19, of Maldon Road, Stanway, and Keighley Mant, 19, of Long Meadows, Dovercourt, also have to thank their mothers for persuading them to enter.
The competition attracted almost 100 entries, and picking just six finalists from the pictures that were sent in was tough.
The judges were delighted with their selection and high standard of the entries, and for the top six entrants, finals day was spent having their hair and make-up done at the Caramel Browne salon in Stanway.
Having all had a cut and colour treatment the week before, on the day of the final the girls were given two different looks - one avant garde and the other more commercial.
Annoshka Simpson-Reeve, manager of Caramel Browne, said: "Most of the girls wanted to keep their hair long, so we worked with that and created different looks by putting the hair up and using exciting colour effects."
After having their pictures taken by Tony Bramley, of Storm photography, the girls were whisked away to spend the evening at Colchester's China Blue restaurant, where friends and family had gathered at a Champagne reception to hear the final results.
Delighted Hannah said: "I never expected to win, so I was really shocked when my name was called out.
"But I am very, very happy to be the winner, and I can't wait to work with the stylists at the salon."
Carole Simpson-Reeve, owner of Caramel Browne, was among a team of seven stylists who worked on the hair and make-up and was one of the judges.
She added: "All our finalists had a great look, and choosing one winner was almost impossible.
"Hannah's natural beauty appealed to us because it will translate in to lots of different styles and really give us something to work with."
All finalists received a CD of pictures and a selection of prints, courtesy of Storm Photography, plus a goody bag full of professional hair products.
Danielle and Keighley also took home a set of ceramic hair straighteners and will now enjoy six months' free hairdressing.
As the overall winner, Hannah received a set of ghd straighteners and will enjoy 12 months' free hairdressing.
She will also feature in on-going PR and marketing campaigns as the Face of Caramel Browne '08.
