We are now in the fourteenth year since the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment (AWRE) on Foulness Island closed its gates for the very last time. For those working there and for those who had worked there in the past, it was a very sad occasion.
Since 1940, AWRE played an important part in the lives of many people living in the Gt. Wakering, Shoeburyness and Southend-on-Sea areas. It is for this reason that a group of ex-employees of AWRE, known as 'The Old Foulnessians' hold a reunion each year. The reunion is informal and looked forward to, by the regular attendees.
Did you ever work at AWRE, either as a Direct Employee, an MOD Police Officer, attached to AWRE, or as a Term Contractor? If the answer is YES, to any of these, why not come along to a nostalgic evening. Enjoy a Pint, a first class Buffet and a chance to meet and chat to some of your old workmates. ALL ARE WELCOME.
Interested? Then telephone Stan Barnes, on 01702 610664, or eMail oldfoulnessians@talktalk.net for full details.
