Looking down on the past
Do you recognise these views? It’s likely you have never seen them from the air, but Sible Hedingham resident Clive Boreham has.
Mr Boreham, 76, took the shots of Halstead, Sible Hedingham and Castle Hedingham with a single lens reflex Miranda FM camera from the Tiger Moth plane he part-owned in the 1960s.
The former electrical contractor, who was an airframe fitter in the RAF, gave the Gazette these rarely-seen photographs for more people to enjoy.
Mr Boreham, who has lived in Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, all his life, said: “I just had a general interest in the surrounding area, an interest in what everything looked like from the air.
“I gave a lot of these photos away to various people who were interested but I thought others would like to see them.”
Halstead - to the right of the photograph is the location of today’s Bois Hall Gardens.
At the back are the Newman and Clarks silos, which are no longer there, as well as the former Courtauld factory (tall towers and white buildings). | | Castle Hedingham - at the bottom you can see St Nicholas Church, and to the left is the old school building. Directly below the church, the handsome white, wide building is the former Balls and Balls estate agent. | |
