Mother of all pantos

THE Headgate Theatre is kicking off 2010 with the mother of all pantomimes – Mother Goose.

The home of amateur theatre in the town, the Headgate’s pantomimes continue to be a very popular part of the winter season.

And with the venue’s intimate auditorium, it offers the cast and the audience a great chance to interact.

For Mother Goose, last year’s ugly sisters are back, but in very different roles. While Kevin Topple takes the lead role, Dave King has moved off stage to direct.

Dave said: “We have been very lucky to find a very funny script written by Brian Ford, from Wivenhoe, and Brian has been extremely generous in letting us pull it about and play with it.

“Consequently, you will find it current, local and funny.”

Headgate Theatre Productions has also commissioned the creation of its own goose, Priscilla, who should prove very popular with the youngsters.

Mother Goose runs at the theatre, in Chapel Street North, from Wednesday until Saturday, at 7.30pm, and 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are running out fast, but there are some available priced £8 and £6 for concessions. Call the box office on 01206 366000.
