It’s Saturday morning. After dragging myself out of bed, and eating a rather rushed breakfast; I’m on my way to my next Mend session! For the first time, we’re going to do some EXCERCISE. O_O. But before, we have a session on nutritional nformation! Refined versus unrefined food – the talk is interesting and makes you really think about how all the processes take away all the goodness and then add more badness like sugar and salt – Mum’s been saying this for ages, but now hearing it from someone else makes it more important! Each week we are given a nutritional target based around what we have discussed – this week it is to substitute a processed food with an unprocessed equivalent – mine is to swap fish fingers for fresh fish - easy peasy.......!
Then we (the children) went down to the hall, with teamleader Brett. We played LOADS of great games; Dodgeball, Duck Duck Goose, Boat Races, pass-the-hoop! Naturally, my team, consisting of Jessie, Hannah and Me won EVERY time! Let’s just forget about the minor fact that we were the only three.^-^. Some of the excercises were to help people remember others’ names, some were to run about, lots of different things! It was all fun. The hour seemed to pass very quickly, and before we knew it, we were greeting our parents with our smiley bright red faces. It’s true exercise can be fun!
Hello! I’m Ollie, and this is my first entry on my Blog! Well, to start, a bit about myself: I’m 13 years old. I go to East Bergholt High School. I like to draw things. Well, yeah, just an average person. For the last couple of years now I’ve been worried about my weight, as has my mother, but I haven’t done anything about it despite my mum moaning at me! Late last year mum picked up a leaflet about a programme named ‘Mend’ which was all about helping children like me. Mum got in touch and found out more and was really keen that we should join.; particularly as Parents attend the class too. So, a few weeks later, I found myself walking up to Colchester Leisure centre, walking into the Gym, and talking to Brett. After a quick measure ment (With a VERY cold tape measure!), I did a quick heart rate test, and was enrolled onto the course. The following Wednesday, I made my way back to the Lesiure Centre with Mum, and we met the rest of the ‘Team’ and the parent and child attendees for the first time. Sat in a small room, the people who run the course introduced themselves. They all seemed smiley and happy, which was a good sign! After a laughter-full introduction, with plenty of the more humerous parents making it fun, we were given our Mend packs and sent on our way, Folder, T-shirt and handouts in hand! But I have a feeling the hard work’s just beginning...
