9:50am Wednesday 3rd January 2007 in Beast of Essex By Jonathan Schofield
A young woman had a lucky escape when her car hit a tree after swerving to avoid a large animal.
The woman, in her early 20s, was driving along Flag Hill, near Great Bentley, at 9.50pm last night when a large cat-like animal ran out into the road.
She told emergency services the animal looked like a massive black cat.
A spokesman from the fire service said: "The young lady was extremely lucky, she was already out of the car when we arrived. The car hit a very large tree and was a total mess.
"The description of the animal that ran into the road sounds like another sighting of the Essex Beast."
