Students’ firm turns over £5m

A SPORTS supplements company founded by two Essex University students is expected to have a turnover of £5 million this year.

Adam Rossiter and Elliot Dawes launched Sport Supplements in 2006, and it is now one of the UK’s largest suppliers of sports supplements and nutritional raw materials.

Having first met on the courts – the two founders were on the university tennis team – they identified a niche in the sports supplement market through their own personal interest.

The 27-year-olds started up their own business, initially importing a range of sports supplements from the US, which offered a much wider and cheaper range of products than those that were available in the UK.

Sports Supplements has grown rapidly, with plans to recruit more staff this year.

The business previously ran from the Westside Centre in Stanway, but is in the process of buying a new warehouse and production facility at Easter Park, Colchester, for about £1.5 million.
