Islanders look for bragging rights
Mersea Island entertain Sudbury tomorrow for their final home league match of the season.
Although they have been confirmed as champions of London League division four north east, this is a game the Islanders will be going all-out to win.
Mersea suffered their only league loss away to Sudbury, 31-8, back in December but then gained some revenge by convincingly beating them 28-6 in the Suffolk Cup.
So this game can be viewed as the decider for local bragging rights.
A win for Sudbury will ensure they gain promotion with Mersea, so they will also be going all-out for a win.
The match promises to be a mouth-watering encounter with the Islanders also very determined to defend their unbeaten home league record, which now stretches back to November 2005, and they have sat proudly on top of the league from the opening game.
Excellent numbers at training have given Mersea coach Andrew Skipper plenty of options, despite a number of first-team regulars still on the injury list.
Dynamic prop Dave Murrell returns to bolster the front row alongside Adrian Evans and Andy Holmes.
Steve Daniels partners Stu Bradshaw in the second row.
In the back row, powerful Springbok Harry Ackerman makes a welcome return to the starting line-up alongside Cook and Priestley.
In the three-quarters, Williams and Le Marquand remain at half-backs, with Fields and Walters in the centre.
Loughborough University player Dan Kerr returns to full-back with Jordan Day reverting to his more accustomed position of wing with Sydenham Drum.
Jon Williams captains the side in the absence of Dave Bredin.
